Parfums de Marly - Herod

This portfolio piece showcases how thoughtful, immersive copy can elevate an already well-written travel description. The aim? To enrich the sensory detail, heighten the emotional tone, and bring the artistry of Herod to life.

My Written Description

Herod by Parfums de Marly is an eau de parfum that exudes warmth and character. Smouldering, refined, and steeped in old-world elegance.

It opens in a slow burn of cinnamon and pepper, like embers coaxed to life, before unfolding into the richness of tobacco leaf and smoky incense. Beneath it, ciste and osmanthus lend a resinous depth. At the base, a blend of vanilla, woods, patchouli and musk settles in with a smooth and lasting composure.

Herod wears with distinction: warm, assured, and rich of character.

Why I wrote it like this

While listing the fragrance’s notes, my goal was to go beyond description to evoke atmosphere. The language leans into Herod’s warmth and depth, painting it as a slow burn: cinnamon and pepper as embers, tobacco and incense as the smoke that follows. This imagery helps convey not just the scent profile, but the feeling of wearing it — refined, smouldering, and steeped in old-world charm. Even the name “Herod” informed the tone: stately, assured, and rich with presence.
